Screened Porch - 20 x 30; Giclee Canvas; Edition Size 225. OUT - 17 x 25.625; Paper Print; Edition Size 950; "This painting embodies so many memories that it verges on nostalgia overload. Our dog, Smallwood, is the center of interest. He was mostly Labrador retriever, but his grandmother was a Newfoundland, so he was big - 110 lbs. We got him as a puppy, and he grew up with our children. The memories of Smallwood are the memories of my young family. Of course, he was always my companion on daily walks. His nose and ears drew my attention to many aspects of nature I would have overlooked. His enthusiasm and devotion were boundless. Obviously, he always wanted to be with us; we were his pack. It therefore seemed as though if he were inside he wanted to be out, if he were outside he wanted in. Someone defined a door as something a dog is always on the wrong side of . . . in his opinion. The setting is our summer cottage which we purchased in 1946. My dad painstakingly laid those flagstones behind Smallwood. He also made the brown box inside the porch for the children to keep their toys in. My mother planted the cedars just outside. Their dancing shadows on the screens conjure up warm summer mornings. I can almost hear the shouts and screams of glee and the riotous splashing as another day of fun at the lake opened its embracing arms." Robert Bateman

Robert Bateman has been called the most famous living artist. He continues to paint and tour the world to promote conservation and preservation of nature. We have represented Robert Bateman for decades and are now the sole publisher and distributor of his reproductions. We are so honored to work with him and witness his success. He has made such a massive contribution to the art world and the natural world as an artist and educator of the earth’s most important resources. Nature as a subject is becoming more and more popular as our environment is in peril. What better subject is there than the beautiful creatures we share this world with? Robert Bateman’s appreciation and understanding of nature are apparent in his paintings. He is able to paint flora and fauna the way your eye would perceive it in real life. It is important that the animal takes full attention. The background becomes muted, and therefore it doesn’t take too much focus away from the subject. His paintings seem effortless and masterful all at once. Bateman’s eye for composition is unparalleled. Each painting is a composed like a symphony, leading the eye to wander. From the backyards of North America to the sprawling plains of Africa. Robert Bateman captures nature the way it should be enjoyed. Above all he is a champion of wildlife. For this reason he has become a household name for art collectors.
